How to Create a Cosy Home for Autumn

Cozy autumn home vibes

The kids are back at school, the shops are already brimming with all things Halloween and Christmas, and summer seems a wonderful but distant memory. This first part of Autumn can feel quite tough for some, missing the warm days and long summer break from school but not quite ready to fill your home with pumpkins and plastic skeletons! Here are our top tips for creating a cosy autumn home to see you through the season.

Hot Chocolate Station

Why wait until Christmas to create a hot chocolate station in your kitchen? Warm drinks and autumn flavours can make the early evenings a bit more enjoyable and are great for treating the kids while keeping them hydrated through the start of cold and flu season at school. Invest in a hot chocolate maker like this Salter one and pair it with a selection of toppings, flavoured syrups and of course good quality hot chocolate.

Wreaths

The front door always looks a little bare between Christmas and Easter wreaths but there are some amazing options available with colours suitable for any time of the year. Check out this Dibor wreath to (literally) bring some autumn colour to your door.

Heated Blanket

With energy prices on the rise again there has never been a better time to invest in a heated throw. Nothing beats cosying up on the sofa for a film under a blanket unless it’s cosying up under a blanket that’s toasty warm within seconds of switching it on! They come in a variety of colours, patterns and fabrics, with more decorative designs coming out every year. We like this super soft dreamland one with six heat settings and a timer it’s even machine washable once detached from the cable too.

Candle Warmer

A great way to enjoy the season is to bring in the warming scents of things like cinnamon and pumpkin spice. If you’ve got children or animals (or are just prone to falling asleep!), try a candle warmer which heats the wax, sometimes more evenly than from lighting, and releases the scent without the need for a flame. It also creates a cosy glow to add to the effect.

Slow Cooker

Now the BBQs are away and salads are out, it’s a great time to invest in a slow cooker if you haven’t already. Hearty stews, soups and chilli can all be prepared ahead of time so you can return home to the scent of a warm, healthy meal. It saves the hassle of deciding or the temptation of takeaway after a long day too. We like appliances like this Russell Hobbs multi cooker which allows you to sear the meat before switching over to the slow cook function.

Hoodie Blankets

Another great way to keep cosy around the house is to wear a blanket hoodie which can help you cut your heating bills while letting you get on with your day. We like this fun personalised one which would make a unique gift too.

Lighting

It’s a great time of year to think about the lighting in your home which can make all the difference to how it feels. Soft lighting like a lamp in the evening or some strings of fairy lights are a calming way to light a room. This Honeywell smart lamp gives lots of options so you can select the right look for your space.

Get Outdoors

Autumn is a beautiful time of year for crisp walks through crunchy leaves and you can appreciate coming back to your newly cosy home after. Invest in a changing robe like thisOsprey one to stay warm and dry no matter what and make the most of the peace before the Christmas rush.
